The Volunteer Center’s Volunteer Chore Program provides volunteers to help the elderly (60 and over) and adults with functional disabilities remain independent in their own homes.

Volunteers help with tasks such as housekeeping, grocery shopping, laundry, yard work, transportation to doctor appointments (if clients are unable to use public transportation), minor household repairs, and mail reading/bill paying. assistance

The Volunteer Chore Program serves as a safety net, helping those for whom other resources are unavailable. Chore assists 200+ Whatcom County residents each year. It costs approximately $500 per year per client to run the program; it costs approximately $55,000 per year for someone to live in assisted living.

Who We Serve

To qualify for Volunteer Chore Program services, seniors and adults with disabilities must be low-income,isolated and do not have family and friends as resources, and referred by a doctor, case manager, counselor, or social worker.
